Naturalized to most of California; grows to 4'; closely related to Intermediate Wheatgrass (A. intermedium), although more heat and drought tolerant; broad range of soil adaptations, best suited to well drained loamy soils; adapted to 3,000' elevation; tolerant of low fertility, and alkaline soils.
