Here is a quick break down of the key differences between Fescue-type and Ryegrass-type festulolium: 

Fescue-type Festulolium: 

• Cross between tall fescue and perennial ryegrass
• Not super-competitive and gives you best of both words from tall fescue and perennial ryegrass
• Focused on potential alternative and meadow fescue and overcoming meadow fescue weaknesses (yield, disease resistance and seed production capabilities)
• Geared towards longer term forage option

Ryegrass-type Festulolium

• Crossed between meadow fescue and italian ryegrass
• Short-term forage - do not use if you want a long-term stand
• In the field - visually similar to an italian ryegrass - but it will head out in the seeding year and may persist for more than 1 year depending on growing conditions
• Good emergency forage option
