We give you head-to-head comparisons which show how our varieties perform where the varieties actually appear in the same trial and in the same harvest years.
Why are the PICKSEED data better?
checks in Eastern Canada trials, we can show you the location of all the trials that make up this number. Click here to see performance trials.
Helping you make more milk
PICKSEED conducts its own forage quality sampling and has samples analyzed by a third party accredited lab. We can show you both the yield advantages and the quality advantage, both of which combined will help you produce more milk.
How to Interpret PICKSEED Yield Information:
We report actual yields measured in the field trials. When we report trial results for one variety compared to another, we show all the trials where the varieties appear together in the same trial. Make sure to compare varieties that appear in the same trials, harvest years, etc. in other words - true head-to-head comparisons. Varieties from different data tables may be grown under different yearly conditions and against different check varieties, both of which will affect performance index.

Forage Testing Q & A
How can we compare the way data is presented by PICKSEED and by other testing organizations? Some other reports only show a list of varieties and a yield performance index for each. The indices for any two varieties may be calculated based on data from different years, different locations, different number of cuts and even compared to different checks. With respect to the Alfalfa variety yield index, the table on this page highlights important differences
How Can You Compare Varieties?
You cannot reliably compare varieties using the index system used in many publications. You need head-to-head comparisons, such as we show you here.
